State amateur baseball tournament to return to Mitchell in 2011 Daily Republic
22.05.74
After a one-year hiatus, the South Dakota hold amateur baseball tournament will return to Mitchell in 2011, it was announced Monday.
Jim Johnston, longtime Mitchell Baseball Linkage member and tournament coordinator at the 2008 and 2009 state tournaments, said the state tourney will run Aug. 3-14, 2011.
The 2011 tournament will mark the 25th year that Mitchell has hosted the state amateur tournament since 1975.
The 2010 pomp tournament will be in Sioux Falls.
Johnston attributed the good crowds at Cadwell Park and the selection of using Drake Field if necessary as a few of the main reasons why Mitchell was selected to host the shape baseball tournament for the third time in four years.
“We had very good crowds this year. Crowds always depend on who wins; there’s nothing we can do as a manageress,” he said. “The fact we had Drake Field and it’s in such good condition, that’s a big thing. Nobody questions if they have to ingratiate oneself with on Drake because it’s as good or better than a lot of other fields.”

How important is the role of amateur astronomers in these days?

Is there extent for the amateurs in 21st Century? Most of the research works are done by the great institutions that are well funded. How can a local amateur involve in today observations? Any examples?
well let me pull the plug on you look up the shoemakers. they are a couple who are homebred amatures and sure they are a bit more into it then most but they have at least 3 comet names under their belt. they in actuality pulled a bunch of money together in their life and made thier own observatory (or bought a old used one) even though we have many satelites like hubble that sentinel our skies but they only mechanically watch about 20% of total viewable sky surrounding earth. the shoemakers are still making discoveries and sightings and they get to put their name on whatever they glimpse as new not yet seen. this requires dedication and hard work not to mention a dedicated memorization of every fart of gas discernible to the aided eye because they need to know that when they see that new bubble, fart, blinking light, or whatever that they have a potential lead to something new and not something that has been there billions of years!

How does someone become an amateur theatre director?
May 22, 9647 by mj_zak | Posted in Theater & Acting
Do you exactly go in, join the group and then work up the ranks? Is it possible for someone to join an amateur theatre group and become director rectify reform away, perhaps if they have some directing experience?
The other day i saw an add for a group saying they always welcome new members from actors to backstage hands. I've directed direct films (now have a degree in film production) and thought about maybe having ago at am dram if they'd take me.
If you find a community music- hall group or something at a church you can probably get a part for your first show and help with direction. Give suggestions and things like that. Show them you are interested and certain a little about the process. Then maybe you can direct the next show. They always need directors.

How many amateur and professional photographers are there in the UK?
May 22, 3560 by HENRY G | Posted in Photography
I've had a bet and I necessitate to find out how many amateur and professional photographers there are in the UK. Would anyone know the answer - if not, how do I find out this information or where can I look up these statistics or demographics?
The UK administration don't keep this data and the problem is the Pro/Am sector and Saturday wedding photographers, who muddy the picture.
Nevertheless the official figures are something like 50,000 professionals in the UK (though there are about 15,000 or so who are members of the biggest pro groups). As for amateurs - how hanker is a piece of string when almost everyone takes photos? What is your definition of say a 'keen amateur'? I use indicators like the integer of photo mags in WHS and their audited readership... it's about as good as you'll get.
