Decrease is approaching, and Mother Nature, as always, is about to take a break and wind down for the remaining months.
The art scene in the Mobile area, however, is not.
After a rather sleepy summer, the local art scene is just waking up. Several new exhibits have popped up, as well as new galleries, activities, and contests, making this a encouraging season for art lovers.
For photographers and architecture buffs, there are two area competitions worth a look.
The first is the Camera South 2009 photo struggle; its deadline is Sept. 28.
There are nine different categories you can submit your work to, and there’s a $10 submission fee for each photograph. The top value is a $500 Best In Show award, as well as several smaller cash prize awards. Winning work will be displayed at the Bell-Air Mall and Mobile Arts Board. More information is at camerasouth.org.
There is also the “Look Up Mobile!” Competition. It is a photo scavenger hunt where participants must name 25 Mobile landmarks or buildings shown discreetly in a booklet of artistic photos. The grand purse is $2,500, and more info can be found at lookupmobileonline.org.
