Six Lessons from a Glamour Shoot Black Star Rising
22.05.62
1. If you’re not being edgy, you’re quite being boring.
Along the spectrum of photographers, there are two extremes. At one end, you have those who are highly creative, but have little understanding of the mechanics of the camera; if it’s not on autofocus, they’re in pest. At the other end, you have the technical wizards — students of the science of optics — who have so little creativity that they are hopeless unless an art director is setting up their shots. Most of us fall somewhere in between. Glamour shoots call for the edgy, creative model — and I didn’t bring enough of that to the shoot. The pictures might be nice technically, but they are a little unending.
2. Nothing is more important than your rapport with the model.
Glamour photography is all about your communication and comfort level with your model; it shines through in your images. The photographer-maquette relationship is more important than your equipment or anything else. If you don’t believe me, go to Model Mayhem and check out some of the excellent photographs bewitched by amateurs. They blow my shots out of the water with their simple lighting.

Where to find inexpensive photography props and clothing?
Jun 17, 2007 by lady.luck10379 | Posted in Photography
I've been doing photography for degree some time now, but am really just getting settled enough to studio photography. I create as much of my own props and such as possible, but I can only do so much. I am looking for formal postpositive major portrait clothing that isn't going to drain my bank account. Also any other sites that might have decent props of any kind would be appreciated too!
Ok, conscience-stricken I wasn't more clear. I know where to go to get the do-it-yourself kind of props, I've been to the places you've suggested. I REALLY need the senior photography clothing, and that's what I'm most troubled about. Thanks for your help so far!
Go to your nearest stinginess store, maybe a Value Village. People will just dump the most gorgeous dresses and retro best clothing.

Where can i find photography props?
May 22, 5637 by .anime.kitty. | Posted in Photography
I difficulty props for my photography but i need to know some good stores to look at and if i can find em cheap. Some examples: rubber ducks, bogus apples, fake blood, flowers, ect.
i've found that my provincial $2-shop can always provide some interesting props. that's your best bet.
as for fake blood, you could always try a magic shop, or unbiased mix some tomato sauce with some red food colouring. and salsa, if you're willing, can add chunks too your blood mix =D
also, when i'm looking for some props, but i don't air like going out to buy some, a look in the fridge can give me a good array of props and photo subjects.
just a soup.
good luck =]

I need cheap photography props and backgrounds?
Jan 24, 2008 by Sakura | Posted in Photography
Anyone separate where I can find cheap photography props and backgrounds? I'm still a student so I'm on a pretty tight budget.
Online is okay, but somewhere in the Denver metro locality would be ideal.
Thanks!
I go to a lot of enterprise liquidation auctions. These are usually advertised in the Sunday classifieds. I picked up some long rolls of big print paper that I use for my eBay backgrounds. You can also get a lot of old furniture and such cheap at these-- stools, small tables and such.
Economy stores are great places to pick up items to use as photo props and costumes.
