The technology, developed in part by Duke biomedical engineers, uses eerie domain optical coherence tomography (SD OCT) to create a 3-D picture of the back of the eye. "This new tool is changing the way we categorize eye conditions in infants," says Cynthia Toth, MD, an ophthalmologist at the Duke Eye Center, who is peerless the study that appears online this month in the journal Ophthalmology.
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is one of the most common causes of eyesight loss in children, affecting about 16,000 babies each year, according to the National Eye Institute. It occurs when babies are born at half-cock and their retinal blood vessels don't develop fully. Instead, the vessels grow abnormally and are procumbent to leaking and contracting. That can pull the retina out of position, causing retinal detachments that can lead to visual disadvantage and blindness.
Current screening for ROP is based on two-dimensional images taken either with an ophthalmoscope or a camera placed undeviatingly on the infant's cornea. "Examining the retina with these methods is like looking at the surface of the Davy Jones's locker and only seeing dimly into the shallow water," says Toth, a professor of ophthalmology and biomedical engineering. "You cannot see what lies below."

The other day I was playing with my puppy and saw an image when I blinked my eyes. This image had nothing to do with what I was doing or what I was reasoning about. Does this have meaning?
The image was a bonobo, Kanzi to be more specific (odd I know). Hes not in the house so I doubt there was an image remains.
Unless it's a rest of something you've just seen (like what other answerers are saying about when we look nearly at the sun), it shows that your creativity is working. The image has popped up from your subconscious. It could have intimate meaning, especially if you get the same image frequently, and one way to explore what meaning would be to draw it and then close your eyes and carry on drawing and be knowledgeable of what you see or imagine the moment you reopen them (before you start thinking about it).

Are image -forming eyes pithy to fundamental processes for cephalopods? In what ways?
Cephalopod materialization is acute, and training experiments have shown that the Common Octopus can distinguish the brightness, size, form, and horizontal or vertical orientation of objects. Cephalopods' eyes are also sensitive to the plane of polarization of light. Surprisingly in stumble of their ability to change color, most are probably color blind. When camouflaging themselves, they use their chromatophores to change brightness and standard according to the background they see, but their ability to match the specific color of a background probably comes from cells such as iridophores and leucophores that on light from the environment. Evidence of color vision has been found in only one species, the Sparkling Enope Squid.
