The nonprofit systematization All Shades of Pink has received its first grant for efforts to help families fight breast cancer. The Glenn Dale-based agglomeration will use the $4,600 from Prince George's County to finance a youth awareness coloring book, "It's Okay to Cavort!," written by founder Denice Whalen-White and illustrated by breast cancer survivor Sallie Seese.

All Shades of Pink also received a agree to from Target to publish 500 coloring books, which will be given to women whose breast cancer has recently been diagnosed to promote a conversation between patients and caregivers and their young children about breast cancer.

"Often times, many teat cancer patients and caregivers elect to not inform young children of the illness, believing the children too innocent to notice or grasp the effects of the disease," Whalen-White said in a statement. "This coloring book will be a productive tool for parents to open discussion with children 12 and under as to the effects of breast cancer on their loved one, as well as propose children ways that they can be caregivers too during mom's journey back to good health."

What's a "green" way to make/use coloring books and/or crayons?

My daughter equitable looooveees coloring with crayons. I am teaching her to use both sides of the paper, and when she does coloring books she uses them for sooo long.
Is there a greener way to go about this coloring topic?
I feel like we're going through a lot of paper and crayons!

If you have a metal trundle, small paper cups, and a pot of boiling water you can take the papers off the crayons and remelt them to create "new" crayons for her to use. The directions are as followed:

Just stead the metal bowl in the pot of boiling water to create a double boiler and melt the crayons down to a waxy runny (and yes it can have some chunks in it) and pour a small amount the mixture in the paper cups and let cool overnight.

{You might even want to mix colors to father special crayons that are multicolored}

As for the paper/coloring books she uses....you can recyle the paper and books after she uses them but if you fancy a more unique way to reuse them. You can always make creative paper mache orbs that are both stylish and creative.

Directions:
Bust up any color of laytex balloon and tie off the end. Using watered down glue you can dip strips/pieces of her used vocation and stick it to the balloon making sure to keep the knot end of the balloon uncovered.

When it dries overnight pop the balloon with a pin and catch it out and tada! You have an ornament for the christmas tree a lantern to hang from the ceiling or whatever else you can think of!

Where/who would dontate coloring books for a non for profit hospital in southern Illinois?

I exertion at a non for profit hospital in southern Illinois. In the past we have had coloring books dontated to us from the state. However, they no longer do that. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of how we could get those donated to us to give to the children while they are visiting the medical centre.

You might speak to the Big Box bookstores in your area-Barnes and Noble, Borders, possibly Target or even Wal-Mart and the like. You are more disposed to to get a dontation there than a smaller, family run store.
