You didn't suggest which Olympus camera. With the exception of their DSLRs, most Olympus cameras us "xD" or "Picture" cards that are mainly exclusive to Olympus. Some of their newer cameras have "microSD" card slots too but these would desire an adapter to be used in a Canon camera that simply uses the much more common SD/SDHC cards.
Bottom line is, unless your isolated Olympus uses SD/SDHC memory cards, you will need to buy new memory cards. The good tidings is SD cards are cheap. The last 4GB cards I bought were $15, each.
As for how good are Canon cameras; you could certainly do worse and buy an Olympus....Good kidding. Canon cameras are fine. Canon for a very long time has been the number 1 digital camera manufacturer in the midwife precisely. Sony is number 2. Olympus is a few spots behind them. If we are talking DSLRs then Olympus is an "also ran" with Canon and Nikon owning more than 80% of that furnish, largely due to their extensive 35mm SLR legacy. When Olympus went digital, they kicked their old lenses and lens mount to the control to develop the Four-Thirds format and that caused them to lose a great many customers.

Go on Vacation with the Canon SX110 IS 9.0-Megapixel Digital Camera
My flatmate just returned home from a trip to Hawaii and has spent the last week making a scrapbook of her photos. While sharing some of her favorite shots, I couldn’t labourers but comment on the quality and clarity of the pictures. She proudly showed me the new camera she purchased before her vacation, which was the Canon SX110 IS 9.0-Megapixel Digital Camera from the in demand PowerShot line. She isn’t much of a professional photographer, but she assured me it was the easiest camera to use, and her pictures look amazing, so she instantly had me interested.
I normally partiality Canon digital cameras for their usability and quality, and the SX110 is no exception. It has a 10x optical zoom lens that still creates a readable picture from afar, which helped my friend get some great shots of the views from her hotel room. It has the time-honoured Canon technologies such as Advanced Face Detection which automatically identifies and optimizes for faces, and the Optical Embodiment Stabilizer which senses and accounts for a shaky camera, creating a steadier image. I was surprised at how well these made the pictures of her relations on a moving boat turn out.
The camera was easy to travel with too, as it has a slim design and uses AA batteries which are calmly to find anywhere. It comes in both black and silver, both providing a professional appearance that looks just as great as the photos it takes! The 3 inch LCD telly is large and bright, so she could even show me a few pictures directly on the camera. I played with a few of the controls and found them easy to use, and also discovered the many shooting modes that concede you to choose the right exposure for your situation.
