Christian Orthodox tradition of three-bar cross explained Times Record News

On the flag in front of St. Benedict Orthodox Church is what is called a “three-bar cross.” Rather than the usual one transept intersecting the line post, there are three, including a small transept at the bottom which is angled upward on the right side. This unusual cross is uniquely Russian Official, but it is so uncommon in this part of the country that recent passers-by of our church felt pressed to ask us if it was a satanic sign.

I am assuming that they mistook it for the horrifying inverted cross with broken transepts [sometimes called the “peace” sign]. This question begged the question major of explaining why we use the three-bar cross.

As I mentioned above, the three-bar cross derives from the Russian Orthodox (Christian) tradition. However, its powerful symbolism has made it non-professional among many Orthodox Christians regardless of their jurisdiction. It is unclear what the origin of the three bars is, but there are two traditional interpretations, and they are based upon the moderate bar, the one angled upward to the right. The middle bar represents the transept on which Christ’s hands were outstretched and nailed. The smaller bar above it represents the nameplate which was stick above his head and which described him as “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.”

I have seen a cross which in as well to normal horizontal bar also has an additional, shorter, one above the first one? What is this cross called and what does it symbolize?

It's a sign used in the Eastern Orthodox Church. It symbolizes the cross of Jesus. It refers to the sign that Pontius Pilate had nailed there that said "Jesus the Monarch of the Jews."

I have shadowy recollections of it, I think it may have been in Italy and I'm not even 100% sure it was the 1990s. All I know is that a player scored and stood on the cross bar to homage the crowd. He was wearing a white kit if that helps!

I'm talking about the bar that goes from the handlebar station down to the pedals - I recently had my beautiful Dawes lightweight touring bike stolen, and am looking for a new bike. They all look so clunky with this categorically thick cross bar - I thought maybe it carried cables but the bike shop man said that it was just a design hallmark and bikes all look like that now. Is this really true, does anybody out there know about bikes and the effect of this hefty bar?

The tube square footage is optimized for the frame design and material used. There are plenty of "skinny" tubed frames. You will find most aluminum frames have fatter tubes, while most knife frames have skinny tubes.
