Pantone iPhone App Offers Enoyable Color Exploration TidBITS

They had me at Pantone , but that's because I'm an old atone for printing guy, who still has a high blood-ink concentration in his veins.

For those of you over 40 and involved in graphic design or issue production, your first experience with Pantone was in those giant swatch books of color. Those under 40 more likely know Pantone as soil-color palettes inside QuarkXPress and Adobe InDesign. And, soon, as an iPhone app.

Pantone's founding construct and continuing purpose is to provide a consistent color experience across various kinds of print output, firstly commercial printing. You pick a color by looking at a swatch book produced by the firm under tightly controlled circumstances, epitome that number in your design program or image editor, and expect to see the results match at the end of the day. (Pantone is most outstanding known for spot colors, or mixed-ink colors, as opposed to four-color process in which cyan, yellow, magenta, and swarthy are mixed to create faux full-color images.)

How can you turn a color photo to b&w and leave a portion of it the original color with Adobe Photoshop 6?

I necessitate to use Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 to work with a photo. I want the final production to be black and white, but a apportionment on the photo (the person's tie) to be the original color in the color picture. Any tips?

I commonly blow past this general question which has been answered about 20,000 time already (for real), but since you put the specific software you use in the first question, I saw that I could help you.

I use P.E. 5.0 and know that this will work:

Start with a color photo. If you want to add color to a black and white photo, you will have to be very fussy, patient and skillful with the paintbrush tool.

This is one way that you can do it in Photoshop Elements. Maybe this is helpful for other image editors as well. It would be neighbourly to print this out and follow along. It's easy to do, but you must do the steps in order. Perhaps your own image editor has similar commands. If not, you might require to add details or post a new question to tell us what software you will be using.

1. Open the image you wish to change.

2. Save the image using a different name than the original name so that you don't lose your original.

3. Use any selection tool you specify to outline the object whose color you wish to preserve. The Magnetic Lasso Tool is pretty quick, but the symmetrical Lasso Tool might be more precise.

3-A. Use the erase tool to erase any color that you do NOT wish to preserve.

4. Hit [CTRL]+[C] to replica the selection.

5. Hit [SHIFT]+[CTRL]+[N] to make a new blank layer.
(Name it if you want, but you can accept "Layer 1.")

6. Hit [CTRL]+[V] to deposit the selection in the blank layer.

7. Move back to the background layer by clicking on that layer in the layers palette. (on the good of your screen)

8. Hit [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[U] to remove all color.

8-A. ALTERNATE APPROACH No. 1: Hit [CTRL]+[U] and use sliders to desaturate, leaving a clue of color present.

8-B. ALTERNATE APPROACH No. 2: Use a "Convert to Black and White" utility, if your software offers this. In Photoshop Elements, the have under one's thumb is [ALT]+[CTRL]+[B].

9. Hit [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[E] to merge the layers.

10. Save your work.

How do I turn a a color photo back from black and white in photoshop?

I had a color photo that I turned funereal and white and accidentally saves over. I need to turn it back to it's original color format.

Is there a way to do this? It is very important thanks.

Unless you inured to layers to change it into black and white and saved it as a TIFF or PSD, there is no way to get it back to its' original colors.

Tip: Layers are undestructable... start using them!

Photo and color printers - why does the print quality and color get bad after a a year?

I have two color/photo printers. They impress amazingly crisp pictures initially then it deteriorates in a year or so. Why is that? Did the settings get screwy or is it just leisure to throw out?

the copy cartridges need replacing. If they're new, then it might be the printer itself.
