Salem Arts Federation to host photography exhibit

The Salem Arts Association (SAA) announces The Photography Show, its 2009 exhibit dedicated solely to photography, and curated by Phillip Prodger, curator of photography at the Peabody Essex Museum.

The present runs through Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Salem Arts Association Gallery, located on Salem’s Artists Row, 24 New Derby St. The demonstrate and reception are free and open to the public.

The Photography Show features nearly three dozen photographic works by members and nonmembers of the Salem Arts Syndicate. The exhibit is dedicated to William S. Day (1953-2009), a lifelong resident of Salem, and active participant in many Salem organizations, including the Salem Arts League, where he donated his time and photography.

‘Flip Flop Pop’ at Experimental Art Gallery

Flip Flop Pop, the art of Richard “The Hammer” Flynn, will be displayed through Sunday, Oct. 4 at the Speculative Art Gallery and Studio, located on Salem’s Artists Row, 24 New Derby St.

I think it seems to look for the structure within the image rather than the full content within it, leaving the later to the feel of the artist (photographer) .
but then I'm only hazarding an abstract guess.

I insufficiency a good photography idea that can be black and white or color. Do you have any ideas? i want something good like abstract smoke.

Mobile photos like smoke can be very cool. Another way to get a similar effect is to use very hot water in a clear glass and turn off a tea bag in (the tea bag and/or glass edges don't need to be in the shot). It also provides a smoke like display. I would recommend a consistent white (or black w/flash) background and setting the camera to manual focus (the glass/water can be hard to sharply defined unclear on).

Other things I'm liking right now... Long exposures, if you have say a 30 second option (or bulb w/ shutter distribute) try some of these:
1) In a dark room press the shutter and then "draw" on the wall with a laser stick or flashlight.
2) Set the f/stop (DSLR) very small like f/22-32, the ISO very low (100), and take a picture of something in motion like waves or things blowing in the stimulate.
3) In manual mode... Use a black board to cover the lens during the exposure. Move something around (like a person) and uncover and recuperate quickly... and repeat. You essentially get the old multiple exposure effect from film, the moved fact may look like a ghost however since you can somewhat see through them.
Note) If the pictures are too bright... add an ND filter, further the shutter speed, lower the iso, stop down the aperture. If it's too dark do the opposite. These types of shots most of the time have a lot of trial and error.
