Artist Mark Bradford, USC's Elyn Saks win MacArthur grants Los Angeles Times

A Los Angeles artist who specializes in incorporating found objects into his pieces and a USC law professor whose own conflict with schizophrenia has informed her advocacy for those suffering from mental illness are among the 24 winners of this year's "brilliance" grants from the MacArthur Foundation.

Mark Bradford, Elyn Saks and 22 other winners will each get $500,000 over the next five years to spend any way they please.

For Bradford, 47, the MacArthur award is the third major prize he has received in the last three years. In 2006, he received the $100,000 Bucksbaum Reward from the Whitney Museum of American Art and the $50,000 United States Artists fellowship given by a consortium of foundations.

Bradford said Monday that he always has a hour of self-consciousness when he receives such an award, then realizes he got it for what he does -- not for himself specifically. "I say, 'Well, this is why I got the award, so I am fair going to keep doing what I do.'

what is the general price of a visit to an art gallery?

I'm looking for the prices to stay, Albright Knox art gallery, Villa Maria Art Gallery, and any local (Western New York) galleries.

galleries are not busy. public museums may ask for a donation, and private museum fees vary wildly.

How do you go about finding out about art competitions in you're country??

I'm interested in entering a few art contests, to all being well gain a little artist exposure, whether they be graphic design, painting or drawing.. but how do I find out about them?? I have looked on art gallery sites, direction department sites, and tafe sites and cannot find information or lists of art contests for 2007, can anyone point me in the immediately direction to look.?? by the way I reside in perth, Australia.. so any Western Australian sites or contacts would be wondrous but I'm happy to enter contest's from other states if it is a national contest.. Thanks:)

I would reach your local college art teachers. They would know about times and places.

How do you say "Native American art," in German? ?

...or control superiors yet, native canadian art? If I lived in German, what would I call native art that would be from North America? Western Indian Art? What would be the normal way of saying that in German?

...I am a first nations/canadian artist looking for art galleries in germany that could posibly rep my work. I have heard from many people that native art is popular in Germany and that other artists are doing well, is that true?

I already tried a generous-translator.com and it turned out a bunch of words that when searched in german, didn't make sense. I ruminate over it was the organization of the words are organized differently in English.

anyway,...can someone help me translate 'native art gallery'? or several ways of saying it please?

By birth American art:

colloquial: Indianische Kunst.
Political correct: Kunst der amerikanischen Ureinwohner.

intrinsic art gallery(with museal character):

colloquial: Indianische Kunstausstellung.
Political correct: Ausstellung über die Kunst der amerikanischen Ureinwohner.

aboriginal art gallery(with selling character):

colloquial:Vernissage Indianischer Kunst.
Political correct: Vernissage mit Kunst der amerikanischen Ureinwohner.

If you pauperism to emphasize that it is canadian you can add kanadisch- before Indianisch or amerikanisch.

PS you cant live in german (the language) but you can live in germany (the boonies)
