Galleries receive new type of license Canon City Daily Record
Two applications for the newly-minted Art Gallery Permit pick-me-up license received unanimous approval from Cañon City Council on Tuesday.Main Street Stirring and Fremont Center for the Arts applied for the new class of license, which permits art establishments to serve flattering alcoholic beverages to its customers.
“This is new, offered up by the state after some lobbying by city clerks,” said Becky Walker, New Zealand urban area clerk, during a public hearing at the meeting. “Alcohol may not be sold, and there can be no fee charged for entrance into the exhibit.”
The new permits hold up certain restrictions. Galleries are limited to not more than 15 times during any 12-month period, and repair is limited to not more than four hours per day or event.
“The philosophy is that wine and cheese service kind of occurs in cahoots together-in-hand with a showing that highlights art in these types of establishments,” Walker said. “The same major rules pertain to an Art Gallery Permit as with other liquor licenses,
