Natural inspiration: Mentzer found her calling late in life, and ... Marin Independent-Journal

Brook at what was then the Mill Valley Arts Guild, where she taught classes and had her first show.

Then she began experimenting with oil paintings, exhibiting her nontraditional renderings of the natural happy. That led her to her next artistic epiphany.

"Those paintings became really dense," she remembered. "I started putting things on the canvas with the oil paints - sticks and slop and mud. What I try to do is follow the work, to let it lead me. And those oil paintings morphed into sculpture. They came off the wall, so to speak. And then it was another one of those wonderful realizations. I realized what I in point of fact was was a sculptor. It took that long to figure it out."

Mentzer moved into a studio in the Industrial Center Erection, a warren for artists on the Sausalito waterfront, and worked there for 15 years.

"I loved getting my hands in the employment," she said. "I loved working in three-dimensional forms. I loved using my whole body."

But it was that overuse of the carcass

Is a black or white ceiling more appropriate for an art gallery....assuming we have plenty of light?

Extremity to know which color will combine with an abundance of both natural & artificial light to put the pieces in the best light. Thanks !

Well glowering absorbs light where as white reflects it, i'd say white but it really depends on what sort of mood and climate you're trying to set.

GCSE Art - ideas? natural forms?

ok, well I've upstanding started doing my gcse art, (we've started early for some reason) and the point is I need a few good ideas. The text I have to stick to is natural forms. That can be anything natural (trees, flowers..) but preferably static things. I have to take my own photo's, so I have firsthand sources.. but I need a camera. Anyway, I need some good ideas for things to paint or draw or sew or anything.

Also, I shortage to research an/some artists, and I do not know where to start. I've been to a few art galleries while I was in London, but that was last year and I didn't note down what art I liked, so I am nice-looking stuck. There are no galleries around where I live, and I've looked at websites, but I am still stuck.

Thanks a lot if you've had the patience to read all that. I valid need somewhere to start, then I will be fine. =]

Isn't art a contrive in which we express our viewpoint, our inner feelings, or to show others a different perspective? Just think of Andy Warhol and pop art, or Marcel Duchamp's astonishing images, or Kandinsky's lines and spaces, and so on. Before you start, the thinking has to be done first. You don't know what you like, so that's where you start. Do a assess, maybe take out a large art book with colour plates and have a good read, starting at the 20th century and novel art and work backwards. Do you like furniture? You can take a lot of pictures outside (do buy or borrow a digital camera) paying distinction to inner space and a new way of looking at the same-old: tire tracks have interesting patterns, the reflection of the scenery on a sun-glasses office tower can be interesting if you find an unusual angle. Take artistic black and white shots, focusing on sense, or character portraits of interesting faces (the more wrinkles and lines the better) in their natural environment. Document what goes on around where you live, or macro pictures of flowers very solid-up. Car parts also make for interesting photo collage. Anyway, the ideas are endless. You need to know yourself first, your likes, what you find exciting and go from there. Some research first. The most work is in the initial thinking and planning, not the actual execution. Good luck!

Museums of Natural History, Science Centers, Planetariums, Air & Space Museums, Art Galleries: Yay or Nay?

Why or why not?
About...
I'm a friggin Nerd. I adore stuff like that! I also love art festivals. I'll be away at one this weekend!

YAY. i evaluate those places are amazing. No, I'm not a nerd but I do value culture and history. Those places are so much fun and interesting and I miss living in NY because of that. There are soo many museums there and here in Florida, not deep down. But yeah, I love places like that because you learn so much that you keep in our head of the rest of your life.

Regent's Park, London, is the venue in October each year for the exciting Frieze Art Middling. This year exhibition will take place between 15th and 18th October.

The exhibitors at the fair are both established and those new to the art world, appealing to an audience that is fraternity wide.  The fair attracts art work from more than 150 international art galleries and is a one stop break for art lovers to view and purchase art. As if this isn't enough, the fair also has artists' projects that have been commissioned exclusively - it is even feasible to attend a session where artists conduct talks about their art.

The Frieze Art Fair has over the past two years proved to be very predominating, with in excess of 60,000 visitors that include the curators and collectors, artists and critics as well as the art loving broad public. From the "first time" collector to seasoned purveyors of art, everyone is bound to find something to satisfy them at the art above-board.

What sets the Frieze Art Fair apart is that it is one of a select group of fairs dedicated to contemporary and living artists, bringing far-out art to everyone. It is also unique in that it has its own temporary structure within Regent's Park that takes advantage of the natural light to hand. This use of natural light showcases the art in an entirely different way to the usual harsh artificial light of a trade show. As well, a series of concerts is presented during the week of Frieze Art Square in an off-site location.

There is a limited number of tickets available, to allow visitors the best practicable experience. The fair provides professionally guided tours that are presented with the assistance of the Art Fund, to come in your visit even better.

Become a FREE member and find out how to apply for 2 for 1 ticket offer before 1st of October, limited loads of tickets available!
