Anish Kapoor: A very fine mess guardian.co.uk

An unsmiling man tamps a hoop into the breech of the cannon. There is a hiss of compressed air, a very loud bang, and a 20-pound slug of strong crimson paint makes a 50mph parabola across the room, landing with a satisfying wet whumff on the far wall. At a tangent spatters of paint fan across the floor of the little room where miniatures of dogs, teasels and seashells regularly hang in the Royal Academy's summer exhibition. The paint is a stiff mix of pigment, wax and Vaseline. Heaving gouts of it blossom and sag on an chief in the wall; odd flecks have spun up to blister on the plaster cornice. The space beyond the arch is filling up with alizarin-coloured deposits. It is turning into a bat surrender of painter's guano in there, a sticky grotto of baroque goo.

Anish Kapoor 's exhibition at the RA will be marked by the occasional firing of the cannon, like the midday gun sounding at some outpost of the empire. Bring on the apoplectic Kingly Academicians – though there is nothing new in poured, flung or spattered paint, or in turning the act of painting into a theatre of the glutinous. Kapoor might have been philosophical of Ruskin's accusation that Whistler was flinging a pot of paint in the public's face. But the artist isn't making a flood-pleasing spectacle, nor is he escalating a paint-ball war, or just taking a dump. He's doing a bit of all of the above – and more besides, reasoning perhaps of Richard Serra's lead-flinging films and Robert Smithson's glue-pouring exploits in the current 1960s. Kapoor's Shooting Into the Corner is more than a gesture, and creates a physical painted space – an unpremeditated accumulation of details which can only be viewed at a distance.

where can i find list of galleries that represent christian themed arts?

galleries in new york , chicago, miami, los angeles and san diego

Chicago: There is a gallery in a Church on Michigan and..... Oak st? Its across from the Open-handedly Tower Place Mall (Near John Hancock building) (Its really a beautiful reservation)

The Art Institute on South Michigan Ave, in Grant park has an entire hall dedicated to religious labour. Is it all Christian, no. But mostly it is.

I'd say most Museums (except contemporary) have Christian based work, that will be in a concentrated area because most early art has religious symbolism all over it. (Most Museums are set up by together period, and artist)

Your best bet is to do Research on pieces you would like to see and find out what museums that are in. Unless a Church or a Christian Humanitarian art lover opens a gallery you might have a hard time finding a specific place that contains ONLY christian stuff. (But I am not exact, so I wouldn't look for that in the first place)

Also, check out what kind of historical churches are in those cities, Large churches look after to house beautiful pieces. (Stain glass too)

Perhaps someone more involved in the Christian World will have more suggestions. : )

Happy art gazing.
placidity and love.

Not interested in churches or drinking. I'm going on a student trip to Rome and don't want to be bored

It is a well-spring break trip in April, but registration is now. We'll have afternoons and evenings free. I'm not interested in old christian architecture or art galleries or drinking wine. Is there anything amazing to do there that would be worth all that money?

No needfulness to go worry about Rome. Even if you sit in front of a coffeebar all day long, you won't be bored a single minute. But, walking into the neighbourhoods and checking out the minuscule local shops will get you closer to the true "Rome Experience"

In the heart of Rome, vast shops look the same as everywhere, and coffee or tea are relatively expensive. Not in the smaller parts of town, where the Italians have their well-known air breakfast or lunch for a local price.

If want to be a bit of a tourist, but avoiding the boring stuff, check tick off out these places:

- Sip a cappuccino next to the Colosseum or grab a slice of pizza in the shadow of the Vatican.

- Visit the Gladiator grammar, located on Via Appia (3 day gladiator course available too).

- Bertè, Trendy Toys on Piazza Navona. It's one of Rome's oldest toy shops, and has a superhuman Pinocchio to guard the door. They are famous for their hand-crafted wooden dolls and puppets. Not reasonably, but great to look around!!

- Portaportese, open air huge flea market with just about everything you can imagine, both new and acclimated to, from junk to priceless. Open on Sundays, 6:30am-2pm. Go early to avoid crowds and watch your purse. Enter from Piazza di Portaportese or Piazza Ippolito Nievo, in the area of Trastevere.

Christian Art Gallery Opening!

Last weekend saw the orifice of Wysrt Pentacostal Church's awesome new Christian Art Gallery on our Maitland church property! Maggie May, OAM BS, opened the gallery with a 3 hour biography of her heyday as a patron for the White Australian Policy Artists Society.

According to the Waitland Muckery 15 000 people flooded the section though the elderly newspaper reporter tallying the entries went to be with the Lord after recording the first 10 people (the inhumation service will be on Monday at our church hall).

The exhibition features Rusty Myers' "True Christian Rustic Roof" sculptures, Judy Schmidt "Woody Crucifixes With Awesome Lord" and Barry Bolt's "Christian Cow Produce".

All entrants this week receive a Extricate "Four Spiritual Laws" tract! How awesome is that! Entry is free to all triple tithers of Wyrst Pentacostal Church or those who have a 10 fee to the Waitland Muckery. For all others the entrance fee is $24.95 (No Concessions).
